Hi,
I'm Joe Bastoni, an Operator for startup and growth-stage companies. Most recently I helped to scale the healthcare services company Precision Diagnostics from 15 million in revenue to over 60 million.
I am passionate about the health of our planet, the environment, and the people who inhabit it. I strive to surround myself with like-minded individuals looking to solve complex problems and make positive impacts.
As an Operator, my number one goal is to create an environment where the outcome is greater than the sum of its parts, a place where 2+2=5.

I grew up in a small town in New England and spent nearly a decade as an engineer and an officer in the Merchant Marines. I then fell backwards into the world of startups and operations, fell in love with it, and have been doing it ever since.
When I am not wearing my professional hat I prefer to wear either a wetsuit, a sun shirt, or a golf polo. When I'm not busy being a mediocre surfer, a pretty good fisherman, or a wanna be scratch golfer, I pretend I'm a writer, and work on my passion projects.
Below are some of the things I am currently working on, as well as a link to my Substack and one of my most recent short story performances.
#Trophyplastic
This project was inspired by a conversation with my wife about microplastics and their effect on our health and environment. You can read about the full story here!
This project was inspired by a podcast I heard on the science of cognitive dissonance. The website I created goes into detail, but the general theme is that humans are experts at rationalizing away bad habits. The reason we are so good at it is because our brains HATE when we hold opposing thoughts and actions, AKA cognitive dissonance. So it then becomes a powerful tool to change behavior.
Slap one of my eco friendly magnetic bumper stickers on your car and next time you go to pull out your phone in traffic you will be performing an action that is in direct conflict with your clearly stated belief about yourself (that you don't text and drive). Its not like you can roll down the window at 60mph and explain to the person who saw your sticker and then saw you texting that it;
"was just this one time and it was really important."
So instead you are much more likely to just put the phone down and wait till you're parked.
I love a good story! As an avid reader and writer I have written, published and performed short stories and slam poetry for many years. Most recently a submission of mine was selected by So Say We All, an organization that promotes live story telling sessions. Check out the link below to see my Performance!
